follow your upper radiator hose to where it goes into the thermostat housing. and thats where your thermostat is.

This is correct. Just a little more description: On my 2000 ranger (I4) the thermostat is next to the water pump. It's in a plastic housing that is bolted to the block.

Best Regards,
Stan

If you are looking the truck frontwards, it's on the right side in the middle. It is a housing. You cannot buy just a tstat. You need the whole housing. I had the same problem and all I did was took it out and sand it. It was all rusted, hence truck was running way too cool. It has worked just fine since.

By the way, I'm from Mty, Mexico.

I guess there is a difference between the 200o and 2003 I4's? On my truck, the tstat was in the plastic housing, but I took it out and ordered just the tstat.

Stan

I think you were lucky to just buy the tstat and not the whole housing. I looked for it and all the places I went sold the whole housing. There are a couple of threads of members that had the same problem and had to buy the whole housing.

Did you buy the tstat? I bet it was better to remove it first and see what was the problem with it. If you already bought it, how much was it?

It is Monterrey, Nuevo Leon.

Yeap. Hell of a lot of rain. that damn Alex hurricane hit us bad. Several streets and higways are destroyed... Didn't know you had rain over there... Hope you are not having a bad time.. Had to pass a lot of flooded streets. Helped a couple of guys whose trucks stalled... so nice to have a Ranger.

Your truck is the same year as mine. I removed the hose from the housing and bent it a little, so I could have some space to work. Three bolts and that is it. Removing the tstat from the housing is a bit tricky but no biggy. Hope you get to work on it any time soon.

Rain almost everyday this time of the year for us [rainy season from June till October] then no more for 7 months,so we are always happy when it's finally JUNE! But we don't usually have a flood problem. We live only 1/2 block from lake Chapala,so our street is always like a river 6 in' deep. We have a problem with the rain washing big boulders down the mountain onto the roads. Seams parts here are always very expensive compared to NOB,

Damn! Half a block away from the lake... i bet you have an awesome view the rest of the year. hehehe.

I called some places to get quotes for the housing. It was MXP$530 (+/-USD$40). As soon as I removed all the rust from it, put it back in and the needle went up to the middle. I read it could also be some sort of problem with the needle itself (like a bad ground or st) but since the needle went up by fixing the tstat, i didn't do anything else to it. Just flushed the cooling system, cleant it with some radiator flush fluid and put some antifreeze on it. It's been a year since I fixed my truck. We had -0°C, +45°C and it has always worked just fine.

running a 180-210 thermostat, if u can find it is supposed to work wonders in this truck. i got my local dealer working on finding me a 190-200 stat right now. my truck takes days to warm up as well. suppsosed to help increase power and mpg as well.
