cooling system
I have a 1999 4 cylinder ranger that I recently had the radiator changed due to a leak.Since the change I get very little heat just warm air,the temperature guage is bottomed out. Ihave since put a new tstat, water pump and burped it numerous times and I get nothing but warm air and the guage still doesn't move. it doesn't seem like the engine is getting to operating temp.Any and all help is appreciated

Re: cooling system
Maybe the new thermostat is defective.
Assuming the new thermostat is not defective, maybe it's the Cylinder Head Temperature Sensor and/or possibly the Coolant Temperature Sending Unit (which sends info to the temperature gage but does not itself modulate engine temps).
Can you take it back to the mechanic who changed the radiator and tell him the issue?

Re: cooling system
Burping for my 98 2.5 is not enough. Try loosening up poses to heater core one by one purging air. Are you hearing any slushing under panel?

Re: cooling system
Check the temperature of the hose from the stat to the upper radiator. Start the engine from cold and monitor. It should stay cold, bang cold, until the temp gauge starts to move. If it warms slowly, your stat leaks, or is installed improperly and not sealing against the inner surface of the housing. Rubber gasket must meet the machined surface and be held there by the legs. Bend the legs and make sure the 'feet' are fitted to the groove around the housing inside the diameter of the thermostat housing gasket. The feet will fit in the 'depression', and still allow the stat to seal to the engine.

Re: cooling system
You have an air bubble. Do you have a picture of the new t-stat or the part #?

I'm having what seems to be the same problem with my ranger. So what your saying is that those little legs on each side of the thermostat need bent in order to hold the thermostat firmly in place inside the housing in such a way that the rubber gasket is firmly pressed up against the opening? That makes so much sense because when I was putting my engine back together I couldn't help but wonder why the thermostat seemed like it needed to be more secure and sealed off than what it was but I was like oh well that's just the way they made it and sealed it off. Hmmm... this must be why my engine will not warm up. Dude if this fixes my problem you just saved my dang life lol.

Re: cooling system
Good video. Just as a heads up, I'm pretty sure the 4 bangers that have AC will have the control valve. The 4 bangers without AC will not have the control valve.
Anyone with a heat or coolant temp issue in the Lima should start by installing a NEW MOTORCRAFT 190 DEGREE T-STAT.

Re: cooling system
Yeah I should have ordered the motorcraft T-stat. I received a new motorcraft T-stat housing from rock auto and its mostly complete with the exception that no thermostat
Do the corner auto parts stores carry the motorcraft flavor 190F T-stat?
