Default I have a 92 ford ranger pickup w/2.3L engine. Problem is it wont start using the

starter motor anymore, but... it will start when pushed. When I try starting the motor does turn and I have had the starter checked. it is a dis ignition and there is something in the starting chain that my sorry Hanynes manual just doens't go into detail about, that is keeping the ignition spark from starting. It run ok once it is started. Any sugestions on how to trouble shoot this problem.

Thanks,
An old back yard mechanic dealing with these new fangled vehicles.

Where did you have the starter tested at? Because most of these auto parts stores like AutoZone and Advance Auto Parts will test them, but their testing equipment sucks. I still think its in your starter, maybe its just starting to go bad, not quite turinging fast enough. I think your problem is in your starter, and I would suggest rerplacing it.

My '90 Ranger will push start, then after driving a couple of miles it will crank start. After that, its usually good for the whole day. I can let it sit for a couple of hours and crank start it. The codes are 33, 88.

Turn the ignition on and find the starter solenoid. And take a screw driver and touch it to both connections at the same time if it cranks then there's your problem. Mine has already went out once and is going out again. Mine is located on the driver fender under the hood. My truck is a 97
