People around here aren't very forthcoming with information are they? It is reverse spin but I still can't figure out how to get it off. The (nearly worthless) Haynes manual shows using a special giant wrench or channel lock but I don't see what you hold on to.
a) not everyone knows the answer to your question
b) you posted it during business hours on a Thursday before a holiday weekend... it probably got pushed so far down the new posts list that no one who knew the answer noticed it. next time try posting the word "bump" if you haven't received an answer within a few days.
c) why are you doing this anyway?? mod or problem?? 'cause you have a warranty....
I don't know about the original poster (who posted that back in July) but I'm trying to replace my water pump. I found this thread searching. Another thread says there's a how to on it but I can't find that one.
No one replied to the thread I posted about replacing the water pump so I thought either there were no issues or it was a dumb question.
Anyhow, I can't see what to hold on to on the fan clutch. I'm assuming the Haynes manual is wrong about being able to use channel locks so I'm going out to try to find the special wrench. Hopefully once I have that it will be obvious.
I have the special tool and still can't figure it out. It looks like if the bolts holding the pulley to the water pump were longer it would fit behind the pulley over the bolts but there's not enough bolt sticking out to catch on.
There are no hex hubs on this or anything to put the wrench on, what does it fit on????
What engine do you have? Some V-6 engines need the tool. My 2.5L I-4 doesn't. I just removed the bolts holding the fan and clutch to the pulley off. The whole thing slid of with no problem and I continued to replace the water pump. I did the same thing when replacing my timing belt and replacing the engine. I do think that I needed to tap the shaft that holds the fan assembly a little the first time with a ball peen hammer but it wasn't too bad.
