Default Jerking at 55mph

I have just bought a 86' ranger. It has been sitting up for a while and when I get to 55mph it starts jerking (like fuel is being shut off and back on). I have had a mechanic look at it and we thought it was Plugs, wires, dist cap, or rotor button; but the guy I bought it from gave it a tune up before he sold it to me. The mechanic put a fuel pressure gauge and tested the fuel pressure. It had 35 psi. To make a long story short; I have just replaced the fuel pump inside the tank. Still jerks at 55mph and higher. I have put Lucas Fuel cleaner lst week hoping that I have some trash in the fuel. I have replaced the filter 2 weeks ago, the old filter rattled when shook. Can there be some trash in the fuel line after the filter? If so, how do I clean the injectors?

Thanks for any advice anyone can give me.

I am having the same problem and I scanned my 2.9l engine today and it pointed to the gas oxygen sensor. I haven't found it's location yet but am waiting for some feedback.

From the verbage my first move would be to put Seafoam in the tank, I have had wonderful results with this product.

PFCosta, you should really start a new thread. This one is over 2 years old. The o2 sensor reading is probably from running lean from a fuel shortage. Maybe fuel filter, fuel pump, or dirty or faulty injectors.

Injector cleaner can be bought and dumped in. Maybe old gas is in the tank, but the vehicle is also 13 years old. A variety of issues could cause the jerking, and at higher mph, I would think possibly a tire balance issue. It probably wouldn't hurt to change the fuel lines out since they could definitely be rotting out. The fuel pump may also be shot, but the truck is getting fuel. Check to see if that is rotting also.

clean and/or change the sensors on the engine too. maf, iac, temp sensor, throttle position sensor, air charge sensor and o2 sensor too as someone mentioned. could even be a bad computor too. or is this carbereted engine? sea foam it good too. half can down the vacumm hose and other half in gas tank. get a good scanner and see what codes it throws. hope this helps.
