Default egr valve delete 1988 2.3 ranger

i think my egr valve is causing me trouble, and i dont live in an emissions area, i need to know the procedure on how to full on delete the egr as a whole, note that if i have wires or parts still hanging on the truck i dont mind. i need step by tep instructions on how to get this s.o.b. GONE. if i remove the wires will the computer start giving me trouble? can i just cap off the egr as a whole? what should i do?

You don't want to remove it. Trust me. I know where you're coming from - they're a pain in the rear! I am limited in experience and I wanted mine gone too (and I know, I have a different 2.3 but from my research EGR's accomplish the same purpose) but Believe it or not, when it's functioning properly, it prevents detonation or spark knock. The only way to properly remove it is to do a custom tune which is expensive...more expensive than just replacing whatever part of the EGR is malfunctioning.

just my $0.02

Gotta go with the Gold on this one. Removing the EGR affects the 'tune' of the engine in all rpm ranges above idle. EGR limits peak combustion chamber temperature, helping prevent formation of NOx, nitrous oxides. Nitrogen is 'neutral' but WILL hook up with any excess O2 molecules to form a really nasty gas. That's the stuff that burns your eyes when you have an engine that is 'running' with the key off.
Lowered peak temperature prevents, or lessens, the occurrence of pinging. Try disconnecting the EGR vacuum line or electricals, and take it on a drive. EGR removed, and cruising at highway speeds, a slight rise or hill can cause pinging. When the engine pings, your gas mileage goes into the tank(bad pun). AND you lose power due to the ping wanting to run the engine in reverse...
