1991 Rough Idle/Problems Starting
15Aug2010 Update - The problem detailed below was fixed by replacing the ICM ($130 at Advance Auto Parts)
Hi Gang:
I just joined the forum and have learned a ton from the postings to date.
I have a 1991 Ranger 4 cylinder that I'm having trouble with. The truck is reluctant to start and idles very rough when it does start. In three weeks worth of efforts to repair the issue, here's what I've done:
1. Complete exhaust system replacment (thought the cat was clogged)
2. Replaced fuel pressure regulator and fuel filter
3. New wires and plugs
4. New coil packs
5. New fuel pump and screen
I've drop over $500 to date and still can't go to get a load of mulch. My next ideas are to replace the Idle Air Control (IAC) valve and/or Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor. I've started the truck with the MAF disconnected and it still runs rough. I also think I can hear a clicking noise in the area of the IAC valve.
I think it's a fuel to air mixture issue
Any other suggestions? I'm almost to the point of putting more money into the truck that what it's worth. . .
Thanks
