Cool Engine Gone....Need a replacement

ON the road and after 6 hours of driving at 192,000 my 2005 XLT 2.3l spun a rod bearing. SO im in the market searching for a new engine. Can I go bigger with direct bolt ons? Or is it much better just sticking with the same 2.3l? And if so could I go with a newer year rather than the same 2005? Perhaps a 2009-2011? What sites sell lower miled engones? Rebuilt engines? Thanks for the all your help

I'd look for any model year newer with fewer miles. Up to 11 should work

No one else has said it yet so... 5.0 swap, just need a few aftermarket parts and custom wiring

It is a Ford V8 and is easiest taken from Explorers. However the latest they were made was 2001 so if your area has inspections of any sort you would not be able to have your truck pass.

Donor trucks are usually $500 - $1000 and parting them out you can make the extra money for the other needed parts.

With your truck, a 4.0 is a better (legal) choice, get one out of a 05 or newer (again, donor truck helps - find a totalled one) and for that you'll need the ecu, engine, tranny, wiring, and maybe a little bit more

ok awesome, now im understanding better; thank you. What if i just wanted to stick with the 2.3l? Could I find a 2009 or higher and use that engine with my 2.3? Im thinking all I need is the short block since it spun a rod bearing, with that being said would everything I have now just bolt on up

This is where my knowledge gets fuzzier... I do not know much of 4 cyls. I know in 2001.5 and newer Rangers they used the same 4 cyl until death, but I am not sire if they were changed at all and if so how much. (I am sure they were because both the V6 engines went through changes)

Probably should stick with a Duratec. Then it's just a matter of unplugging all the wires, pulling the motor and plugging the wires into the new motor. Try to find a 2005 first though.

So you're saying just stick with the same engine, a 2005 2.3l?
