Damn at 192k? The soonest Ive seen a ranger duratec drop before this is a dude here who had a head gasket go at like 225k...

Im seriously not trying to blame you- failures happen- but can I ask how often the oil was changed? Did it see tons of heavy pulling? Was it ever run out of oil?

05+ are the best years. If I'd known then what I know now I wouldnt have gotten my 02. The IMRC and electric thermostat suck. The latter is easily fixable but the former is not. If I blow a motor im not staying 02. My plan will be to get a complete 05+ motor with manifolds and everything, and a wiring harness and ECU from an 05-06 Ranger. Basically bolt/drop right in, but with the benefits of the newer motor.

Please let us know how this goes. As I understand it, the OBD/computer design changed post 06. I dont THINK you will have any issues since I believe the cam profiles and everything in the engine remained constant from 05 up.

Hello I hear you. I am not the first owner of the truck. I actually purchased from a small mom and pop. They wanted 3,800 and I ended up taking it for 2,700. From the Car fax report I saw nothing serious just that the last owner couldn't keep up with the payments. I think at the time it had 138,000 miles on it.

For as long as I had it I have kept up with oil changes and minor towing of tree debree and trash to landfill; but that wasn't until about 165,000.

I havent yet picked up the new small block but my local ford called today saying it was in. Its from a 2011. SO when everything disassembled Im gonna have the head redone to. Illl defenetly post how it goes. I too was like wow 192.....

I wasnt interested in putting in a bigger motor like a 4.0 but I just didnt get as much info as I needed in time

hey hey hey, its been awhile. Hired a friend of mine to do the work. That was last year in september when I purchased the block lol!! Long story short hired another guy and he is on it. Problem is the lower main bearing hold down isn't the same as the 2011's. Any one know where I can get a replacement or the correct name for that part??

Still and tap the holes?? WHats that mean?
Another question is, what other makes and models had this very same 2.3l 05 engine?

Drill and tap the holes on the main bearing cradle. You just need some drill bits, a tap and die set, and center punch available at most auto parts stores or at harbor freight tool.

Took it to a machine shop and it did just that. Worked out fine. Thank you

On the oil pan. DO we have to make the gasket or do the auto parts store carry the gasket? I was a bit confused. When I wen to the auto parts store they gave me gaskets but none fit the actual pan. The mechanic says we have to make our own. If that's the case on that, what kind of silicone do I use??

Ok so everything is placed together. Now when turning key fuel pressure is great but quickly drops. I don't think it should be doing that. Also there's gas where the spark plugs are. Anyone know what might be this problem

sounds like an injector stuck open or leaking. pull the fuel rail with the injectors in it and cycle the key and look for the leaky injector/injectors. unless the engine is cranking no gas should come out of the injectors.

Does this mean there's gas on top of the engine? In the spark plug wells? If so, the O-rings on the injectors are likely leaking. You may be able to re-seat them in the fuel rail, or re-seat the fuel rail altogether. If not, you should be able to get O-rings from a dealer or parts store. Hopefully the fuel rail has not been damaged while removed.
If the leak is into the cylinders, a leaky injector is more likely. One other thing that can leak is the check valve in the fuel pump. That will not cause fuel to be released anywhere, just back into the fuel tank.
