Idle stays high after driving

My 96 2.3L runs great but randomly when I come to a stop after driving I notice the idle is high. Prob. around 2000 rpms or more. Then later I come to a stop and it is idleing normaly. If its idleing high I can shut off the truck and restart and the idle will return to normal. I did a quick search and It looks others have had problems with their IAC being dirty, I took mine out and it looks rather clean.

Any suggestions on what it could be?

It can be a vacuun leak or pcv valve acting up.Is your 96 comining with tachometer in the cluster? I wonder if I can install a cluster with tach on my 96 that cames without it.

Na it doesn't have a tach. Im just guessing on what rpm its idleing at. I really wish mine had one too.

I'm sure if you found a good service manual that had detailed wiring diagrams you could add a cluster with a tack. I helped a buddy put a tach in his civic that never had a tach stock. We just had to find the right wire on his distributor and tapped into. Let me know if you try this out and I may have to do it too.
