Well this weekend i finally got the 1991 Ranger in the garage and busted into it. Started replacing brakes and whatnot. And realized, it has one hell of a fuel line leak. Its about a foot in front of the gas tank on the frame and easy to get to and at first i thought ok, ill just replace the line but im trying to do this on a very strict budget as i just bought a new daily driver. It seems that there are 3 fuel lines all connected that run to the filter and then to the tank. It also looks like you have to remove the tank to replace them all. So my question, is there a quick and somewhat reliable way to fix just the part thats leaking? Maybe cutting it out and putting a new part of line in with some sort of connectors?

personally if its a fuel line i wouldn't cut cost and go cheap seeing as how that could be a potential fire hazard.. but if you want quick and easy thats a cheap fix - cut out the bad section and put in rubber fuel hose and use hose clamps to secure it.

yeah i understand the risk part. It would mostly be driven 5 miles at a time to lowes and fishing and stuff. Very few miles put on it. New lines is the right way to do it for sure.

Is the fuel line metal or plastic? You can do the fuel line and clamp thing on metal, but I don't know if it will hold on plastic as the surface is so shiny smooth. FoMoCo previously made splice and repair fittings and kits for plastic fuel lines, which might work. Beyond that, I would consider putting a slight flare into the ends of the metal line, working new fuel line over the tips, and double clamping. If you are before the high pressure pump, there's slight risk of leakage, and 'after' the pump, a bit more. You can use a pointy tip 'cold chisel' to slightly flare the fuel line and help retention, or a flaring tool.

Honestly, if it's not a daily driver and just a beater vehicle, I'd just get some high pressure fuel injection hose and some fuel injection hose clamps, and put that in place of the bad section.

I've had to do it before on a few different cars due to rust issues and fuel lines either being unavailable, or waaaay over the customers budget. Never had any issues. Works like a charm.

Had this thought today- could i get a nylon to nylon compression fuel line fitting and then just cut out the little hole portion of the line and replace that little part with the compression fitting? No line just the connector. Also what size fuel lines did the 1991 ranger use? 3/8 i think? Or 5/16?
