97 ranger 2.3 5 spd 270000 on body 125000 on motor 2000 on trans . i do 200 miles a day in this truck from an elavation of 5500 to 1500 and back. truck runs fine 5 am headed downhill. truck dies in the exact same spot every day on the way home its so predictable i take the exit. truck runs 60 miles fron 1500 elav. to 3500 then dies its 4 pm anywhere from 100 -115 outside. new filter and pump have not fixed prob. if i pull the fuel filter inlet line and drain the gas i can get it start and run usually making it home. blew out lines checked fuel press noticed when it dies there is no fuel in the return line to tank any help

did you put the fuel filter in the right direction???
check the fuel pressure regulator. i believe on the fords is on the f-rail.

yes filter is in correct. checked fuel press at rail via schrader valve 45 psi jumps to 52-55 with vac hose disconected all within specs as per the manual. drained and cleaned tank sat. going to give it another shot today. can fuel inj. autos vapor lock?

I am not sure what manual you have but my haynes says 97 should be koeo 35-45 koer 25-35 koer with vacuum line disconnected 35-45

how many times does it have to cycle to get to koeo pressure. what happens to the gauge when you increase rpm's.

have you puled the vacuum line of the FPR to see if there was gas in it.

Sounds like maf or iac sensor problem you say it dies at the same area every time? I have heard of some thing similar due to the difference in the elevation
