182 is a pretty low temperature, a stock thermostat is 192 degrees I think.

This topic has been covered 1000's of times. You want a 190,192 motorcraft tstat. You don't want the 180 degree one unless you are sitting on the equator!

The good news with your truck is if you need a heater core it is a 15 minute job and the part is $30

You most likely have an air pocket or a failed tsrat! The Motorcraft tstat will help solve those issues. Bring it back to the guy who installed the tstat
----------
Did you by any chance check that your coolant level was full. Sounds like your tech might be incompetent.
----------
Bring it back to the guy and ask him if he put a 190/192 stat with a jiggle valve in it. Tell him you have an air pocket.

Sounds to me like a massive air bubble. Like mentioned above, burp it!

Re: Engine will not heat up
What happened was the shop that you had put your tstat in just bought the cheapest one they could get instead of a Motorcraft or ford oem tstat. Because of this it doesn't fit in the gooseneck right and when it was started back for the first time after the replaced tstat, it stuck open, now it's running cold. If you need temporary fix until you get the tstat replaced, put some cardboard in front of the radiator.

Re: Engine will not heat up
Stant, Robertshaw and AC-Delco are pretty reliable brands, IMO. Motorcraft is fine, but you don't need OEM for it to work properly, just reasonable quality.
I think the factory is a 195F setting, but 190/192 should work pretty well compared to one that is stuck wide open. Of course, being stuck open is a LOT better than jammed closed.
If you do it yourself, you can bend the metal 'prongs' so the thermostat will stay firmly in the housing. The rubber gasket on the stat should get jammed into the outlet end, and the metal edge should fit into the machined recess. Use thread if you want to hold the gasket in place, and pull it before final tightening. If you DO use sealant, be sure to re-check the tighness after a 24 hour period as the sealant will squeeze out and make the tension less on the fasteners.

The OP did not do it himself so the bending and prodding of the crappy tstat does not apply here.
I agree there's a chance he could find a tstat that might work but what's the point when he can get a MC that we know will work?
I believe you left out the part about the jiggle valve. If he's going to use an aftermarket stat at least get the best "crappy" one w/Jiggle available #ponderous
