Default Target RPM for cruise speed.

Trying to decide what rear end ratio to choose and maybe this is the wrong place to ask, but... Looking at specs for my 90 2.3, peak TQ is at 2600 rpm. Would that be a good target rpm for my desired cruise speed to maintain best mpg? I'm changing from my 3.08 because I can't get my boat up my gravel drive. I figured any change would be an improvement but I don't want to overdue it. @ 70 mph 4.10 would put me at 2842 rpm and 3.73 would be at 2586 rpm. Opinions? Thanks!

If you have a manual transmission I would put in 3.73s

If you have the automatic, I would put in the 4.10s

MPG at cruise starts dropping rapidly after 2500-2600 RPM. This is around the 65mph area on my truck. I can't speak for the 2.3's performance but I'd shoot to maintain a similar set of specs.

Yes^^

If your goal is MPG. then your target speed should be 55-60

Thanks, I was leaning twd 3.73 as well. MPG is not the pri goal, but I didn't want to kill it either. Thanks for the input.
