Default Installed an aftermarket tach, HELP ME PLEASE

So ive installed an aftermarket tach and im having problems. I installed this because my original tach was reading really low. Never goes over 2000 rpms even when it should be at 5000 or whenever im giving it hell. So ive followed all instructions, used the tan/yellowstripe wire. Wired the pos and neg up correctly and also have it hooked so it works with my dimmer and light switch. The tach works, but...it works just like the old one! Please help me. Is there another wire I can hook the green one to or what? Im stumped. It looks cool and where i mounted it is perfect..but it really isnt doing me any good. It would be nice to be able to have my music up loud while driving in the city, not having to listen to my rpms while im shifting to know when to shift. I need a tach...

tach is a bosch sport 2

EDIT: THE SWITCH ON THE BACK OF THE TACH IS ON THE 4 CYLINDER MODE. So that is correct also.

I've only ever messed with one aftermarket tach, and it got it's signal off the ground side of the coil wires. So....if yours is the same way....possibly you have a bad ground going to the coil, which may even be the reason why the factory one isn't working properly?

Not sure how it works on a 94 since I don't have a wiring diagram sitting in front of me.

I'll check that when I get home in a little while. I did ground the aftermarket tach straight to the battery so that has a good ground. I'll look around under there and see if the coils are grounded good. In the mean time, maybe some more people can chime in and give me some ideas so I can check more things when I get home. It would be nice to get this fixed today so I can finally have a tach!! All suggestions are welcome!
