Default HELP! truck stalled and will not start again

I have a 2000 ranger xlt with a 2.L engine and 5speed manual transmission. I had a timing blet replaced over a year ago. I have an entire new clutch system about 4 months ago. I am not sure if the two are related. After getting the new clutch, my truck would rev to 5,000 rpm's occasionally while in neutral. Today the truck started just fine. I only got about a block and the truck stalled and would not restart. It acted like it ran out of gas. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. The engine sounds like it is trying to start when i crank. It seems to have full power and no clicking. Thanks in advance!

No but in all honesty, it is hard to hear over the chimes of the key since i don't have anyone around who can help by turning the key while i listen closer. My 1st thought was fuel pump but i didn't want to jump to conclusions. I also thought it could maybe be a fuel shut off switch or even fuse. which is why i turned to FRF. Do you think i should pop the line off the fuel filter and see what happens?

is the inertia switch on the under side? drivers side? if not, do you happen to know its location? Thank you so much for your fast response!

Its in your owners manual.. But if iirc, its on the fire wall above where your feet would be on the passenger side.

Can you clarify what you mean by "trying to start?"

When you crank it, is it spinning over with an almost drone like precision? Like this:

Or is it almost starting then going drone for a few seconds, etc? Like this:

First thoughts would indeed be the inertia switch (you can try messing with the switch before replacing it, or checking it with a multimeter), the fuel pump relay, or the fuel pump itself. It could also be the harness/connector at the fuel pump.

1) you have a Lima 2.5 L(virtually bulletproof )

2)Pull the timing belt cover back and make sure the timing belt is there and not loose.

3) instead of pulling the fuel line to check for gas do this: put key to KOEO(Key On Engine Off). then put a rag over the schrader valve(looks just like a tire valve ) on the fuel rail and push it in with a screwdriver. Does gas come out? Be careful doing this. You don't want gas in your face or open flames around

The way you check the inertia switch is to see if it popped up. If it popped up you push it back down.

If those 2 things check out you want to check for codes? Do you have an obd-2 reader? A giant vacuum leak could keep the truck from starting. A bad MAF could possibly keep it from starting but less likely and these would throw a code.

The reving to 5k after the new clutch is odd and a possible clue for a loose vacuum line, etc, this is where checking for codes would help.

The start sound is like the 1st clip. The inertia switch is not poped and am in the process of checking the wiring for power on both sides of the switch then I will reply again. Thanks everyone for the input. Look for a reply in about an hour.

Also the obd is not working but check engine light is on. Timing belt is good I did double check since it was replaced in the last 2 yrs

It's easy to check the schrader valve for gas, literally takes about 20 seconds, if you have gas the inertia switch is fine. My guess is the inertia switch is ok, it hardly ever fails in the 2000. The issue is somewhere else.

The CEL should be on KOEO.

What do you mean the OBD port is not working? If you put a scanner on it and there's no power then check the fuse for it. You should get that working first.

The ibd doesn't keep my truck from driving so it's the least of my worries. I have power on both sides if inertia switch and say the fuse panel but doing no power leading into a distribution box on the frame near the fuel filter. Just to be safe the pink write with black stripe is the constant power when key is in on position? I think this may be my issue. Should I replace this distribution box?

Check for fuel at the rail.

There is no fuel at the rail which is what lead me to think the fuel pump was bad. I was told that before replacing the fuel pump i should check a few other things especially the power. I am going to test the pump itself by running a wire from the battery to the pump just to see if it turns on. If so then i think this distribution box located near my fuel filter may be the culprit. I will keep everyone posted and thank you all again for all of the input and ideas!
