2000 w/ 2.5 making a lot of noise
Hi all... need some advice. I recently bought a 2000 Ranger with a 2.5 5speed and 145k. It ran great until I had the oil changed for the first time. Now, when cold, it rattles and knocks for about 60-90 seconds and then clears up. Didn't do this at all before the oil change. Had it changed at Valvoline with 5w-30. I'm guessing maybe the guy I bought it from had something in the oil to keep it from knocking. I changed the oil to 15w-40 and used Lucas Oil Stabilizer.. no difference. I changed it again and used a K&N filter and Slick 50. Nothing. I had the timing belt replaced, hoping that was contributing to the noise.. nope. The mechanic that did the belt thought the knock was a wrist pin and to just ignore it as it will probably keep running for a long time.
I'd really like to get rid of this noise.. or at least find whatever the previous owner used to make the noise stop so I can sell it to the next sucker. lol Any advice/recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
