Fuel Pump Shut Off Switch
Hi all , i noticed it seems everytime i take my tank down and do some work near there with sometimes unplugging the plug for the fuel pump , that when i put everything back together the truck doesnt start up , atleast it takes a while for it to start up
I was told it could be the fuel pump shut off switch , but on the vehicle is says to look in your owners manual which i dont have one , so were would this switch be and is it just a button or what exactly do i do
Thanks

Re: Fuel Pump Shut Off Switch
This problem is not your fuel pump shut off switch. That is an inertia activated switch. It trips off when you crash and requires you push the button on it to reset it.
What you'red describing sounds like the fuel pump is worn out and slow to pressurize or the fuel filter is clogged.

Re: Fuel Pump Shut Off Switch
Mine has a reset button on it. Passenger side but mine is more towards the front of the truck not so much in the panel once you see it you will know what it is. Its only happened once to me when i was driving shortly after a filter change. Pulled off the side of the road and pushed the button back in and it started right up.

Re: Fuel Pump Shut Off Switch
I just pushed it down when my truck died and it started up after that. You said that your truck does eventually start but ti takes awhile. Not sure if this has anything to do with that because if this gets triggered the truck will not start. Worth a try I guess thought maybe its a bad switch or something...

...............
If the pump and filter are new, than its just because the fuel lines are empty. If you keep taking the tank off, you keep draining back the fuel lines. Then you get in, turn the key, and expect the fuel to magically be there instantly. Its going to take a bit for the fuel system to fill and pressurize.

Re: Fuel Pump Shut Off Switch
Ok i was wrong , i dont see the switch , i was looking all around for it and i cant find it
Yes i assumed it would take sometime again for the gas to go back through , but now the gas guage is reading half a tank
Also i know this isnt the exact same topic , but i was doing some other work to the truck and i needed to reset the computer and looking online and another website with someone that owned a ford ranger also doing work , said to disconnect the negative cable from the battery for a minimum of 5 minutes , so i did it for about 7 minutes and reconnected everything and now the truck doesnt start , ive had similiar problems , that i hear clicking like the battery is bad , but i have the battery charging and its a 12 amp charger and its on 2 amps
Please people if someone knows whats wrong , the only thing i did since i last started the truck was reset computer and put in fuel , like i said ive had similiar problems , but i just need this fixed or hope the constant charge of the battery will be enough

Re: Fuel Pump Shut Off Switch
What fuse is it , that would be easier if it does the exact same thing
When i take the fuse out , should i wait to put it back in or just take it out and then put it back
