Any codes? How's it run normally? Id look into doing a simple tune up ie: plugs wires fuel filter clean maf and iac. Double check those last two those are big ones that can cause poor performance. Also, maybe check your fuel pressure since a big enough loss of it could cause an engine to die.

When it dies, does it just stall out or does it lose all power? Radio, lights, ect. If it loses all power, it very well could be the battery cables. My old 95 used to do that. If be driving and it would die and lose all power. Presets would be wiped off the radio and everything. I just replaced the negative cable and mine never did it again.

Check the plug on the side of the engine right below the manifold. It uses a lever to lock it together. Sometime the lever will come loose. Happened to me the other day.

Chek hoses inder hood that are deteriotated and old and replace those first. If it still dies, get new plugs, wires and a new IAC valve.
