Remove the intake manifold and look just behind the driver's side of the back of the engine. That's the EGR valve assembly. If you're thinking of trying to access it, you'll need to unbolt the transmission mount, remove the transmission crossmember, and use a jack to angle the entire powertrain to a position where you can reach it. So unless you've got a code or reason to suspect an issue specifically with that valve, leave it alone.

Ok. So it'll throw a code if it's stuck or bad? Sounds like way too much work.

It's arguably a lot more reliable than older style EGR systems. It'll take a lot to make it stick. And if it does, the PCM should be able to recognize it immediately. If there's something that's making you suspect it, try addressing everything else that could cause the same symptoms before tackling that. I pulled mine off to replace the gasket recently (I've been on a quest to replace every external engine gasket I possibly can), and it was not fun. Took me a few hours playing with a jack and twisting motor mounts in extremely scary angles before I finally managed to wiggle it back on there.

The PCV valve is a little tiny hunk of plastic. It's really really cheap. Also a pain to get to, but still preferable over the EGR. Glad to hear you found the issue.

Oh, and consider replacing the PCV hose while you're at it. They like to rot out over time too, and they may or may not outlast the valve.
