useless plastic parts
Whenever I look in my engine bay its just too damn crowded I want to try and get rid of some of the useless plastic crap and shorten some of the hoses and find better places for wiring
For example the unnecessarily long stupid hose for the a/c that is wraped around the air box and both ends where it comes are literally right next to each other
----------
Also there is a black sphere under the air box with vacuum hoses running to it I think its called the vacuum ball
What is it for? Can I remove it without worry of performance issues or check engine lights

Re: useless plastic parts
It's for reserve vacuum for the heating and ac, if you don't have it depending on the load on the engine and throttle position your heat and ac will default to the windshield vents.

They don't put useless parts on vehicals. That would be a total waste of money. Most things should have a logical purpose

I would like to consolidate most of the parts in the hood tuck away wires and shorten unnecessarily long hoses etc to make everything easier to clean and maintain
----------
Because when I go out with friends I end up detailing my whole engine bay afterwards lol I wanna make it easier

Re: useless plastic parts
If you don't like to clean your engine, then don't clean it and face the consequences later.
OR,
Don't go off-roading.

Im not trying to change the function of anything i just did an intake runner delete and by the looks of it they were only there to cause problems because they were brittle crappy plastic and my truck runs better now but im still gonna replace the manifold but when I was working on the truck I noticed how far apart everything was spaced when it could be consolidated alot better
I work part time at a Toyota dealership as dual credit for school and I notice on the new and old tacomas and even the tundras everything is easy to get to because its all consolidated and parts arent too bulky
I was wondering if anyone had gone through their truck at all and done the same thing

Re: useless plastic parts
You're free to modify the contents of the engine bay however you want, but the risk is entirely up to you. The engineers who designed it in the first place probably hate it more than you ever will. Every time I look at mine, I see decisions that were probably made after someone shouted "FOR CHRIST'S SAKE, JUST MAKE THE #$@*ING THING WORK ALREADY!!!" I'd be willing to bet money that if you took the time to remove certain components or shorten certain hoses, you'd eventually find out why they're there or that long in the first place. Those are solutions to problems that you will never have to experience because of them.

Re: useless plastic parts
Check through the How-To sections to get some info on easy mods to perform. One of them is an intake snorkel delete, which will help you familiarize yourself with the air box and its surroundings. Use mods like this as an excuse to get your hands dirty and on the various parts throughout that bay. Eventually, you'll gather a good understanding for what they are how they work, and more importantly, how you can change them.

Ima leave the air box because the stock one is good at keeping water and mud out
----------
I helped this dude with a fully modded 2014 jeep wrangler he went through a puddle I had just gone through with my stock ride height and he sucked in water he had a k&n basically the cold air intake just sucked in the wayer that splashed onto it
----------
It was the most pathetic thing id ever seen he had a 6 in lift with 35s and 4x4 I have 2wd stock ride height with p225/75r15 mud grips in the back

Re: useless plastic parts
You could make it a FFE! (Fred Flinstone Edition) that would clear out the engine bay!
But really, if your new I admire your ambition, but as many people have said already, Ford wouldn't have wasted the money on unnecessary parts. Team of engineers were paid lots of money to figure out what to do under that hood.
