Default vacuum leak I think its the intake manifold runner

What is this thing I just replaced the imrc and then I got a p0171 code running lean I finally found this leak because of the constant tapping I usually hear had gotten louder

I have already replaced the fuel filter the pcv and oxygen sensor. I also cleaned out my catalytic converter runs the same but sounds better than before but im still having trouble with this leak its getting me 15 mpgs I have been taking my time trying to fix it since im still in highschool and my resources are limited but now that gas prices are going back up im gonna fix it as soon as possible this weekend im gonna pull the manifold off and either get a new part or marine tex it so it doesnt leak and I can double my gas mileage again but id like to know what the part is called so I can at least look into buying one ahead of time

A clacking noise means the valves themselves have failed. Replace the IMRC and actuator if you want, but it won't fix anything. Unless you have a code for specifically the runner controls, the system is working fine. A clacking that goes away when you unplug the vacuum hose to said controls means that the bushings holding the valves in place have rotted away. The only fix for that is replacing the manifold or deleting the valves.

As for a vacuum leak back there, replace those two vacuum hoses on the IMRC. That's the likely cause.

Its funny cuz the problem arose after I replaced the imrc because it failed after the hose wasnt connected for a long time

If I put my finger down on it with the engine running it slows the leak

----------

Either way my manifold is coming off this saturday

if i understand correctly, the IMRC valve turns on & off based on what your asking the vehicle to do. it's open when WOT & hauling ass, and closed when putting around best i understand. looks like it causes a lean condition when the butterfly sticks open...

not sure, i bet you can spray a cleaner in them to see if it helps the sticking (if its sticking). they look kinda plasticky & fragile, i bet an old one might break if you tried to pull it apart. could be wrong though couldn't hurt to try

I know they havent functioned for the past couple months since the imrc wss disconnected because one of the hoses fell off but when I replaced the imrc and put the hose back on it created that vacuum leak and it appears that I am the only one this has happened to

----------

I noticed before that I had an extreme lack of power though but I now I get horrible mileage

if they default to closed when disconnected, i can see why the power would be down. not to sure on the relevance of the bad mileage

I think thats also the runner because if I turn the engine off I can move it up and down like an actuator

Ok just wanted to make sure im tired of putting money into this truck because my uncle never kept up with the maintenence when he had it so as soon as I got all these codes I had to replace the fuel filter, and pcv the truck has 155k and I plan on getting 400k or more

----------

It kinda sucks when I have to spend money on it cuz my budget goes towrds the truck I am still in highschool and I get paid every 2 weeks and with the way gas prices are sadly skyrocketing again I need to fix all of this to get my normal 28 mpg back
