Default 2001 Ford Ranger 2.3L - Coil Problems

I've been having problems with my coil for a while now. I've changed it upwards of 10 times in the last couple of years. Every time I change it, the truck will run good for about 3-4 months. Then it'll all of a sudden start losing power, won't accelerate very well, die while I'm driving down the road, etc. This happened recently and I changed the coil again and it ran perfect on my way home from AutoZone. The next morning it went back to shaking while idling and had no power. So this time it only lasted one day. If anyone has had similar problems and knows what could be wrong with my truck, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Does your check engine light come on when this happens? Unplug the coil pack, clean the mounting surface, and check all of the connections.

I would scan for codes if you haven't yet. It should be throwing codes if it's running that poorly and they may give you some clues as to what the problem is. My 2001 Duratec still has the factory coil pack on it.

It's also possible if you got all the coils from Autozone they have really crappy Chinese coil packs for the 2.3. Parts quality seems to be getting worse. If you haven't already, you might try a different brand coil pack if the scan codes indicate that's the problem.
