Default 2.3 turbo swap:)

What's up ranger people! I'm about to buy a 2.3 turbo from a guy and want to swap it in my little blue 1989 2.3 2wd ranger. I'm wondering all I will have to do. I have the computer, whole engine( no turbo or inter cooler, but I'm working on it) an a 100% stock 1989 ranger. I'm mainly asking can I use the r1 tranny that's in my 1989 ranger, and the wiring harness. Oh the engine is from I think a 88 thunder bird. Any help on this would help me insanely. So please don't be shy an let me know thank you

Upgrade the clutch. I'm assuming you mean M5OD-R1.

2.3 bell housing on eBay right now, I would do T5 or better swap and use an aftermarket hydraulic slave so you don't have to do cable swap (<nightmare). The R1 trans will not take much abuse.

Yeah I'm just on a budget but will the r1 trans work for a bit till I get some money for a t5? And how about the wiring harness?

From experience, I can tell you that the M50D both versions will take quite a bit of abuse, but it won't last forever. They're great at holding if they're not mashed up before the swap. Hell I have seen em take 400 horsies at the wheels and hold up. They weren't designed to be racing transmissions though so granted it can hold it, I wouldn't rely on it.
