I had the same thing. In thinking throttle position sensor. I've had multiple Rangers and have lots of parts. I pulled the receptacle off the throttle body and I cut the plug off of another harness. The TPS was older for my 93 than the 97 I took it off of. That's why I had to change the plug as well. But it sounds like that might be your problem.
