Default HELP! Spark plug wire probs!

I've just replaced my spark plugs and wires on my 05 2.3L ranger for a basic tune up... aaannnd 3 out of 4 of the spark plug wires seated just fine on the plug, but the aft #4 spark plug wire will NOT sit right. I've tried everything I can possibly think of. I've taken the plug out and it fits fine when it is not installed in the truck. The plug is seated and tightened down properly. I've tried using the old plug wire and it doesn't sit right either when the plug is installed. I've used the proper grease for the instillation. I'm out of ideas... I really need to get this back together by this weekend. And I've already spent a full day on this...

did you compare the new wire to the old wire to see if there was something on it that would interfere? Did you compare spark-plugs, new and old are they the same? I doubt there is anything stuck around the sparkplug hole because the socket would not fit but did you check anyway......

I reread the post is it possible the plug you are installing is different than the original......

Try reinstalling the old spark plug and wire and see if it sits right and if it does compare them to the new wire and spark plug.

I had this happen on my old Toyota 4 banger. The boot on the end of the wire was to long. It would hit the block before seating on the plug. I had to cut about half an inch off the end to get it to seat. Took my about three hours to fix such a simple thing, I know your pain. I believe it is just one of those weird things with aftermarket wires. Good luck.

he did say that the old wire did not fit either...........that is why i was suspecting the plug!!!........or less likely something stuck around the opening ie. a piece of the old wire!

^^^^^ or new plug is shorter out of the block than the old plug. Cutting the boot would still work. Sorry, I missed that in the post.

I did compare the old plug w/ the new one, no size difference that I can tell of. I inspected the wire boot w/ the old one and there is no difference that I can tell of. I've used a flashlight and checked the inside of the wire boot and the inside where the spark plug mounts and see nothing that would hinder from the boot making a proper seat on the spark plug. Boys, I'm plum out of ideas here...

Look inside the new and old plug and see how far down the medal is from the end of the boot

Plug the wire onto the plug out of the engine. See if it seats. If it does then you need to modify the plug wire thickness. If it doesn't you need to cut the boot, or modify accordingly.
