Exclamation Why is oil so dark!!!

i changeed the oil 2 mounths ago and i just checked it and its very DARk brown its a 07 d-tec and has 49,000 miles and i have a motorchaft filter wtf is wrong.

it means the oil is doing its job of keeping the sludge building particals suspended in the oil for the filter to pick up instead of being deposited in the oil passages and valve train. oil manufacturers add detergents to the oil achieve that.

it makes sense about cleaning but how did u know im raceing u can tell by oil color

What brand oil are you using? Depending on the brand, some get dark sooner than others. But yeah, it getting dark, means the dirt is in the oil, not on your engine. Don't worry about it, some of the best oils out there look dark after a couple weeks, but continue to protect much longer. Just keep up with your 5000 mile oils changes, and no worries. Oh, and change the spark plugs at 100K miles.

its valveolin max life synthetic blend 10w-30 its probally dark from cleaning. and 5000 miles is for highway miles city driving sucks and all ready changed plugs to bousch iridium x4

Shoulda used NGK IrridiumIX plugs, IMHO. And your oil should be 5W20, you're giving away free horsepower with thicker oil.

yeah the auto parts store omly had 30 .i known, ford uses 20 for better hp and mpg.....i guess i should change it.... yay another 50$ i gotta spend

5 quaurts of 7.75$ oil a 11.00$ filter thats like 45$
