how many fuel pumps on 88 ranger 4x4

don't have a manual yet for this truck which is the cheap but good service manual for so i can find out info as my title.

There should only be one unless you have a second tank. I don't think Rangers come with a second tank.

Ok so there's no high pressure fuel pump on the outside frame and a low pressure in tank. thanks, dickl

My ’88 STX had two, high pressure under the cab near the filter and low pressure at the tank.

thats not true, im not sure about 88 but my 86 had two of them. one in the tank and one on the frame rail. follow the fuel line from the tank and you will find it if its there.

Sounds like I'm wrong. Two pumps just sounds odd to me but I'm sure there is a good reason for it.

the one in the tank is just for pulling the fuel out of the gas tank and the one on the frame rail is the high pressure pump to get it up to operation pressure. 86-88 was the early days of EFI in the rangers, so things were refined and improved shortly there after.

thanks, i haven't checked yet about the fuel pumps, i pulled all my fuses and checked them. and now my truck starts up. what the h@$$. i check those tonight

My 87 Ranger 2.9L has two fuel pumps which I had to replace to fix the gas gauge. See my illustrated procedure at:
