Default Why Does My Mileage Suck?!?!?!?!

I have an 89 2.3 that gets about 16-18 miles to the gallon. It has a new egr,o2,ICM,plugs,one new pack, new timing belt, good air filter and the whole nine yards. So why does my mileage suck butt????? Check engine light is on but wont read anything.

How heavy is your right foot? What fuel are you running? What are the driving conditions? Hilly, flat, windy, ect? There are HUNDREDS of factors.

Your gas mileage sucks cuz you drive a 25 year old truck be thankful it's getting 16+

Okay so I got a read on that light. Bad timing. So I'm going to pull the timing light out and get to work this afternoon.

I have cleaned the throttle body. Where is the IAC on this motor?

The iac should be to the left of the egr valve on the throttle body.

Gonna be real honest. I've looked there. But what does it look like? And is there a pic of it in my Chilton's possibly. I'm used to working on carbs not fuel injected.

Okay found it. Now what? Unplug And spray it down with carb cleaner then leave it to dry?

There are two bolts holding it on and a gasket.. buy a new gasket.. take throttle body cleaner or carb cleaner.. spray it down and wipe with lint free clean shop rags or towel... let it dry before putting it back on.. there isc a step by step pictorial on the web.. even shows before and after... look up how to clean throttle body on 2.3 ranger i said screw it and bought a new one.. but cleaned the old one and still have it as a spare.

Cool.. I was there learned a lot on here. These engines can be a pain.. mines a 95 I bought for the boy.. good truck now that its running right.
