Cam Pulley Shaft squeal on cold start up
Recently my 2000 Ford Ranger 4 Cylinder has developed a squeal that comes from the shaft of the Cam pulley.
I had my timing belt replaced along with the oil pump over the summer and everything was running great and still seems to be great but when the temperature drops below 40 degrees this squeal is very loud on start up and lasts for about 5 minutes until the engine warms up.
I know that it is the shaft of the pulley that is squealing because when i put a few drops of gear oil on it it quiets right down. The next morning however or a few mornings later the squeal will come back.
Anybody know why this is happening? or what is wrong? are the pulley bearings bad? is the tensioner out of alignment?
Does the pulley need to be replaced? is there another lubrication I can try? Or is it ok to leave it since it only happens when the weather is very cold?
This is one of the only things I don't repair on my own on my truck so I really feel bummed and not sure what the problem is….
everytime I take my truck in to the place that replaced my timing belt and pump they never hear the squeal on start up- probably because the shop is warm…so they usually just have me pick my truck up and I take it back home and deal with the squeal and oil.
Id appreciate any answers and suggestions…..
