Default 2008 2.3l Swap?

So I am tired of gutless 2.3l motor. Its 2wd and I want to keep it 2wd as I plan on building a full long travel truck in the future. Ive been looking into doing a swap and was wondering if anyone on the forum had done a swap on a 2008. Id like to do at least a V6 potentially the 2008 V6, or even a V8 if can find a swap that does not require too much custom fabrication...

At the same time I plan to switch over to a manual transmission.

Just looking for input from someone that has done it, or has knowledge on the topic.

Do a 5.0 swap out of a explorer or expo

That won't work especially if he has emission testing where he lives...a 4.0 swap would be world's easier

I do have emissions laws where I am , I'm not too worried about that because there are always loop holes to that... I'm just looking for the best swap as far as motor and ease of doing the swap

chances are the engine has to be from the same model year or newer as the vehicle...there goes the 302...a 4.0 would be a damn near bolt in swap

Would the 4.0 bolt up to a ranger transmission.

You have to have a trans from a 4.0 (the manual is a M5OD-R1). The 2.3, 3.0, and 4.0 all have different bellhousings

How hard is it to covert from an automatic to a manual at this point ? I currently have an auto but want to swap to manual when I do the swap . From my understanding I need a whole new computer unit , hang the peddle, and a slave cylinder

Yeah at that point not that bad since you have to change transmission regardless but you'll need peddle assembly, master & slave, line, flywheel, clutch set, ECM (which you have to change regardless) and driveshaft.

It's all about part collecting really

You should go drive the old 2.3 and 2.5....

Your 2.3 is a pretty peppy little motor.....ruined by tires and not gearing it.

Bay Area.....California....motor swap? Good luck with that...
