Default 1991 ranger (first Ranger ive ever owned)

hello ranger forum!
I had some questions about a truck im hoping on getting in two days time. It is a 1991 ford ranger, with a 2.3 Liter 4cyl engine. it has the 5spd manual transmission, and I think that it is a pretty good truck, but I want some opinions on it. Is it a good platform? how reliable is the engine and transmission? anything I should be aware of for future repairs or any specific kind of maintenance required for that particular truck? I'm new to ford's, so I don't know anything about them. Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

Keep the cooling system in shape and it's pretty much bulletproof. Very little power, though. It doesn't like hills.

Just bought a '96 last year with similar specs to what you are looking at. I replaced the timing belt (looked original and had lots of surface cracks), the fuel filler tube (if you smell gas when the tank is full it maybe a rotted out tube), and put a new thermostat and radiator on it. It came from AZ so it was in really good shape otherwise. This is a good forum to search on for typical problems. I had a friend help me with the repairs. So far, it seems to be a fairly easy truck to work on.

The spark plugs are really difficult to replace on the 4 cylinder. Other than that, these trucks use really simple technology and are pretty straightforward when you work on them.
