Default OK to swap head on 2.3L doc engine?

My 2002 4 banger has a bad knock. I thought it was rods but now find it is in the head. I have another head to put on but now my neighbor says you can't replace the head on the 2.3L later model engine. He says the block and head need to be manufactured at the same time or else they won't be machined correctly and it I put this replacement head on, it will not work right. Sounds like a bunch of bs to me. If the head is not warped and the block is good , what could go wrong?

I'd like to get on with it but don't want to tear into this engine and make the swap if my neighbor is right. He didn't have seem to be able to explain it to me so I'm thinking he's nuts.

Anyone know what he might be talking about??

It will work fine so long as the head is in good shape.

That's what I would think too. But this 'know it all' neighbor says you can't do it on the newer 2.3 engines. Got any idea why he would say/think that? have you ever done it on a 2003 or newer?

The neighbor has seen the head and knows it's from a 2.3 duratec

what the heck could be knocking so bad in the head that it would sound like a rod? The previous owner of my rig bought this new head to fix the knocking sound but he died before installing the new head. he was a good mechanic and I assume he diagnosed the sound correctly but I can't figure out what would be knocking so loud in a head. it's not a click or a ping- it's a low dull knock.
