What oil for my 2010 2wd 4 cyl plain jane truck?
Advice please:
I hear synthetic only and wonder if what local garages put in is synthetic or if it's a syn blend and whether or not synthetic blend or full syn is worth it for this truck.
I just bought it and want to do an oil change since I don't know the last interval. In warmer months I'll buy oil/filter and do it myself but it's brrrr outside so this will be done by a local garage.
Syn, syn-blend, or regular 5w-20 perhaps (winter here in NH) suggestions and thoughts please--thanks

The answers to questions like these are like politics and religion; aren't those "banned" subjects?
*Give it a few, someone will come along and tell you to use ( SC)Amsoil and to run it 20K between changes, but only if you use a ( SC)Amsoil filter, lol.

This definitely could get political.

I would just stick with motorcraft oil and filter.
You can get a jug of motorcraft at walmart for $14.99-$16.99 I believe it is and filter is around $3

Re: What oil for my 2010 2wd 4 cyl plain jane truck?
I use motorcraft FULL syn (not synblend) in my plain jane 2011. however, M1 is a fantastic oil and can be gotten quite cheap at Wal-Mart for about 25 bucks for 5 quarts. I just like using a Ford in a Ford. However, the synblend that is available at most autoparts stores is also very good and is about half the price.

Ford calls for a rediculous 7500. I preference the 5000 interval because it's easy to remember and while the oil may keep it's "lubricity" up to 7500, it also absorbs a bunch of combustion byproducts that can degrade the metals in your block. Even if all that of which I previously just said is a bunch of bull, i'd rather be safe than sorry.

I can't tell you why Ford calls for 7,500 miles because it would get political.

Nowadays the norm is 5,000 miles. I dont even come close to 5,000 in a year so I do it on a schedule of every 4 months. Ya that may seem excessive for a vehicle barley driven but that is how I do it.

Re: What oil for my 2010 2wd 4 cyl plain jane truck?
ANY API certified motor oil (even Royal Purple ) will serve you well as long as you keep it up to the correct level and change it when it gets dirty. I use Mobil One Extended Performance 0-30w.. I change it at 5000 miles. It is still pretty clean and yellow as honey! THIS oil change at 270,000 miles Im gonna use 10w-30 and leave it in for 10,000 miles or one year. (which ever comes first)... But Im gonna change the filter and top it off every 3,333 miles.

I'd be willing to bet that if for example, a car lived a life of frequent and plenty of highway miles, say someone who travels 300 miles a day for business, that after the first few (and frequent) oil changes, if they went 7,500 between changes that the car would be a little cream puff at 200K and nobody would be any wiser to it's past.

my good friend drives a TON. His last Chevy Express van he got rid of it at 200k (it was only 4 years old) and did oil changes at 7500. He actually sold it to a mutual friend of ours and its still going strong.
