Default truck hates the cold??

My truck has recently decided to hate the cold. It acts like it wants to start but wont fully start and stay running. I have discovered that giving it gas while attempting a start usually helps?? Any ideas? 2000 2.5 auto. Newer battery with plenty of cold cranking amps.

First off, your giving it air, not gas. When you push the throttle petal, it opens the air intake. So your truck is either dumping more gas than it should at start up, or it is starving it for air, and you are evening out the ratio by opening the throttle. I would start with making sure the temperature sensor is working properly. If it is telling the computer that its 5* out when it's 40*, then it will dump more fuel to help with the start up.

Probably you IAC is really dirty. Mine is doing the same thing. I know I have to give it gas to stay started and after it warms up it idles a little better. Only when really cold though.

I've noticed that if I give it a lot of throttle after it catches it seems to idle better quicker.

I haven't had time to look at my IAC yet. Maybe you should look at yours.

I think I remember one guy had a similar issue and he said that it was either the IAC or throttle position sensor. In his cause i think he said replacing the throttle position sensor helped.

I will see if I can get some information later this week on how to test.
