Default removing the shift lever

I have searched for an answer to my question without success. I have a 2004 Mazda B2300 which is the same as a 2004 Ranger 2.3L more or less and im in the process of changing my clutch. When I went to remove my shift lever the chiltons manual says to remove the bolt from the base of the shift lever. After pulling everything off I noticed a threaded stud going through the base with a nut on one end. I pulled off the nut and im unable to remove the threaded stud going through the base of the shifter. Does anyone know how to remove the shifter and/or give me some advice on removing it?

Thanks

Take the nut off the pass side, thread onto driver side. Keep threading til the bolt slides out then just pull up on the shift arm. It's a bolt with a cam on it.

When I did my clutch, I ran into the same problem. I ended up just removing the whole shifter from the trans. Once you take the boot off, you should see three hex nuts holding the shifter to the trans. take them out, and the shifter should come right out. be careful though when removing the trans this way. fluid will get all over the place if you turn it on its side. I know this from personal experience.
