Default Motor not turning over!

Help guys, I'm sure this has been posted before but I need to get this car running asap!! I just bought a 4cyl 98 ranger 5 spd today and after I got it home, it won't start. Here's the problem, after attempting to turn the key it makes a constant clicking/spinning sound. It didn't seem like it was coming from the starter but on the opposite side where the oil filter is. It push started just fine. It is not the battery since I switched it out for one from my other vehicle. I'm not very familiar with Fords as I have always owned imports. Any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Sounds like the starter bendix isn't kickin out the gear or flywheel is wornout in different areas.............did it do it when you looked at it, or did it fire right off?

It started just fine when I bought it. It started a 2nd time after that. I'm going to take off the starter today and see. It really didn't sound like it was coming from the starter but after some research that would have to be the problem.

Fixed You guys were right. It was the battery cables. They were corroded inside and out. It was strange because it the clicking was coming from the transmission not from the starter itself so that threw me off. But again, thanks for the help.
