Default My baby broke!

so i have a slight issue with my 96' 2.3L 5spd and i will try to be as clear as possible without writing a novel.

my truck has had the check engine light (p0443 & p1443) on for a little over a year. it has something to do with my evaporative emissions control valve and circuit. Could this prevent my truck from not starting? she turns and turns and turns but wont ever fire....i have a mild backfire right when i turn it over in the begining, ive replaced the pcv valve, ive tried starter fluid, i HAVE NOT tried pop starting it. i am currently waiting on a part from a parts store and have 2 1/2 hours to kill. any insight would be greatly appreciated

This is a long shot and I'm not even sure if they did this in your year but do you have a chip key? Only reason I ask is because those damn keys are on my mind. One of our work trucks had the chip key go bad and the SOB would crank and crank but wouldn't turn over. Took us a while to realize it was the damn key. To tell you the truth I'm not even sure any ranger has it but hey I tried. Might be worth a shot considering your truck ran fine for year with the Check Engine light on. Good Luck

I bought a truck with those same problems. It turned out to be a broken tensioner spring for the timing belt ( the belt behind the plastic case ) you may want to look into the timing before you throw parts at it...just a thought.

That's what I figured O well I just had to vent my key story. I'm sure someone will be able to lead you in the right direction on here eventually.
