Default Calif.Equip Question

I've got a question guys. I bought a new motor last week and I was randomly looking at the thing today and I noticed something. Now, on the "new" motor, I'm going to guess that it is not Calif. Equipped due to it does not have a EGR valve sensor attached to the EGR on the back of the motor. My current motor has this part though. So will the motor still swap over with the current wiring harness and ECU, or will it always throw a code and run like crap due to it not having this sensor?

Here is the part I'm talking about

And where it goes

Any help or input is appreciated guys, I'm just trying to figure this out

That's on the egr valve? Huh my truck doesn't have that. All it has is a vacuum line. No sensor on it

Yeah, that's on the EGR valve. Now mine has the sensor as well as the vacuum line too. On the new motor it doesn't have the sensor. I've seen it before and I've seen it called as non Calif. Equip. I just wanna make sure that my current computer and wiring harness would still work. This is my first motor swap so I still kinda new to this

Maybe it doesn't have the sensor cause when the motor was pulled they left it connected to the truck? I don't see why yours wouldn't plug into it.

Well there's not even mounting holes or the slot on the new egr for the sensor. Like the egr wasn't made for it

I think that will work. Idk someone with emissions tests and stuff will chime in. I don't have any tests or anything so I don't have to worry. I can run straight pipes and the cops don't care all they care about is speeding and window tint lol

Look for a dpfe sensor. Should be mounted on the exhaust manifold.

What does this do? Is it EGR related?

It measures egr flow through the egr tube.

Default Re: Calif.Equip Question

You may have emissions test problems like I have been going through this month (12/2013). There is a nice guy at my emissions testing place helping me. I've been fighting the "check engine light" because the computer for Cal DMV fails my Ranger (2.5cyl 4). All other aspects pass. I replaced the Delta Pressure FE unit ($34 at Rock Auto) and that solves all the codes except....tada! EGR. It's tricky to reset the computer, according to my "Nice Guy". Disconnect battery for a bit. First start of engine, go nowhere, let it idle five minutes. Fill fuel tank to 80% full (to set vapor emission test...phfllltt!) and sit overnight (no, I'm not making this up). To reset EGR monitoring, drive about ten miles on the freeway, never exceeding 55mph. I keep failing to do 55mph for ten miles, and the light comes on while I'm driving...sheeeit!!, and after 3-4 days of around town, working perfectly. There are five tests, and you must pass four, so mebbe you can sneak by without EGR, but I gotta see if my EGR is plugged/dirty/nonfunctioning.

Thanks for the picture of the EGR valve.

Around here this is not popular to say, but it would be easiest to pull the codes and see exactly what is kicking your CEL on.

Edit: It's also a good idea to start your own thread instead of high-jacking someone else's
