Default fuel problems

I have a 2000 ford ranger. It does not seem to get gas well when I start it. It idles rough for a while and then it levels out. The code read low fuel pressure egr vaulve. I changed the egr and I still have the problem. I have also changed the fuel filter. Could this be a fuel pump problem. the codes I get are p1401 and p0171 can anyone help please!

Default Re: fuel problems

Could be a fuel pump problem, which is very easy to troubleshoot. You can buy a fuel pressure gage/hose assembly from most major autoparts stores for a very reasonable price. They typically come with adaptors that will allow you to thread the fuel pressure gage/hose directly to the Shrader valve on your fuel rail [ looks just like your valve stem on your bicycle tire] Just crank up your engine and read your fuel pressure. I highly suggest to you or anyone else who owns a vehicle, motorcycle, boat engine etc, to get a Haynes or Chiltons manual that covers your particular year model, You will save thousands of dollars in repair bills if you learn to do a lot of repairs yourself.
