Default Aftermarket oil pressure gauge

Ok so since I've learned over the years the stock oil pressure gauge is what I call a dummy gauge( only goes down when to low of pressure). Since this I want to add a aftermarket gauge that give actually readings of oil pressure. But I have no clue how to do so lol. Like I can run wire and put a gauge in and what not just need some help on how about doing so if that makes sense

You will have to replace the sending unit and buy an aftermarket gauge. Idk of any good ones. I looked into doing this a while back but I don't really remember the names of any gauges I found. I also know that I found a thread on this before so you could try searching for that unless someone else might chime in

I have these in my f100. Work great. You can even keep the stock sending unit if you want (I didn't bother). Instructions are really good, and it's actually pretty simple. All you have to do is run the plastic hose to where the old sending unit was. One end in that, one end in the gauge. It also has a light that you can wire up for night use. Pretty simple, IMO.

Very easy. Just disconnect the sensor and autometer provides everything else. This is a mechanical gauge. Everything you see was around $85.

Can you hook up the aftermarket oil pressure gauge, and still have the one on the instrument panel still work?
Id love to do this, but don't want a dead laying gauge on the instrument panel lol

Yes. The link to the one I posted has instructions on how to do that. The only thing you need is a t-fitting.

All in all, is it a pretty easy job? How long did it take you?

Heres how I temporarily mounted mine.

ForumRunner_20131010_084005.jpg

The clear plastic line running down by the oil filter is the one for the oil pressure gauge. I thought heat would be an issue, but Ive gotten over 200 degrees and it hasnt hurt the hose.

Then your not searching good.

Its a phantom mechanical oil gauge. Which is around $60. Then the pillar for a ford ranger is autometer as well and its about $25.
