Need help with 1999 4.0 VSS and SpeedO trouble
Hi guys, I have read a ton of threads about the famous VSS and SpeedO problems, but I'm still lost!!!
Here is what happens:
First, the SpeedO and Odometer worked fine... but I had the ABS light ON...
After a while, the SpeedO started acting up and it would only read speed on or above 30mph. Then it stopped working completely and also have a Check Engine light.
I did when ahead and changed the ABS Speed Sensor on the differential. This did make the ABS light to go OFF but the SpeedO did not work at all, and temporarily the Check Engine also was turned OFF. After a while the Check Engine light went ON again.
So I took it to a shop and to Autozone and they both plugged the code reader thing, and got the same result on both: P0500 VSS
So, they told me that I needed the one on the transmission. I'm confused as to where this "Transmission VSS" is located, whether my truck even has one, and if it does, should I just unscrew the bolt, take out the old one and plug the new one? Is there anything else I should change or keep in mind while changing this sensor o after changing it?
The truck is a 1999 Ranger with Automatic Transmission. Everything works fine on the truck, but I need the SpeedO working!!!
Can you guys help out?
