Default Put 92' Cougar Engine in 99' Ranger

Hello, and thanks in advance for any advice provided. First, I have very limited mechanical knowledge, so please bare with me. My situation is that I have a 99' Ranger with a blown head gasket and it is leaking oil into the radiator lines. I already know what the repairs would entail, but I have an engine out of a 92' Cougar that I was told would work in the Ranger with the transmission that is already in it and that it would just need a mounting kit to go in. So I would like to confirm whether or not this is accurate information and any technical information, as far as if it will work for whatever reason or why it wouldn't, would be greatly appreciated. The engine in the Cougar is a 4.6L V8 and the engine in the truck is a 4.0L V6. Thanks

You were misinformed. The 4.6 is nowhere near a dropin job, you have to swap the trans, plus plenty of fab work to make that wide motor fit. You can get kits to put in the 5.0 in that come with headers and motor mounts.

Since you have a 99 you can 5.0 and trans from an explorer and it will be almost plug and play.

^x2 the 4.6 is too wide for the ranger engine bay to just drop in

wouldn't a 92 cougar have the 5.0 with a AOD set up as Ford did not start putting 4.6 motors in TBs and Cougars till 96?

you are correct, 92 cougar had 5.0L with an AOD (non-electronic). 94+ had 4.6L
