Default Can I Cam my stock engine?

I have a stock 99 OHV 4.0 with 136,000 miles and I want to cam it. First, is this a good idea or very very bad? Second, is the power difference worth it and if not what is a better alternative? If It is fine to cam it and the power difference is good for the amount of work, how high of a lift can I do before having to do lifters, valves, ect..?

I'm guessing the engine needs to be pulled to cam it so you might as well do a mild performance build while it's out
