Default Best Plugs for a 93 4.0 ?

Could there be any reason to use anything other than the recommended Motorcraft plugs?
280K, last changed around 6 years/50K miles ago. Motor has recently began being sluggish in lower RPMs(1K-2K) but over 2K it picks back up
Thanks for any suggestions

Single platinum, exactly as the spec reads is what you want. Per the owners manual they are rated to go 100,000 miles; I ran the ones in my old 94 to 93k, pulled them out and other than the gap being a bit wide, they were fine. BTW, do set your gap at the low end, that way as they age they approach the upper tolerance. Don't start in the middle or at the top end of the range.

at the low end? hmmm, not sure how I set them, but I'll look into it. I was aware of the 100,000 mile thing, but wasn't sure if possibly age could affect it, it's just getting very sluggish at lower RPMs, and I figured that's where I'd start. The mileage seems to be holding steady

The numerically low end of the tolerance range.

I guess I'll pull them out and check em. Could a wider gap cause sluggish performance up to around 2k rpm? past that it picks on up, but up to 2k it's very hesitant, then after 2k it pulls on out of it. I never drive fast, and seldom ever let it wind, generally just poke around, on rare occasion maybe run it on out in 2nd or 3rd gear
