Default ABS problems

Have any of you had a problem with you abs turning on even when your not braking hard or sliding at all? Mine kicks on at the easiest of stops I had it fixed a garage about a year ago. They replaced the ABS controller (the thing that looks like a oil philter off the brake line block) it was a very expensive part and now it is doing it again. Any ideas.

Had the same problem 18-20 months ago. Had both front ABS wheel sensors replaced at the tune of 300+ each. Now its happening again. I'm begining to think it might be dust/dirt /road crap on the end of the sensor or on the hub itself.I've been able to keep things a bit cleaner since it warmed up and am not having as much problems.GOOD LUCK!

My truck does the same thing, I have been told the sensor gets dirty and does read properly. It thinks the wheelis not turnig and then abs tries to correct the issue. Mine does it almost always on a nice slow gradual stop and happesn when the speed gets down to around 5 mph. I have not gone under the truck looking for the sensors.

I drove through some deep snow opnce this winter and the probelm went away for a few days. That made me believe the sensor might be able to be cleaned.

I have the same problem, after replacing the abs unit, brakes all around and the read diff sensor. i pulled the little fuse under the hood (i believe #7) to disengage pump. if you pull the big fuse or the one in the dash the speedo wont work.this completely solved my problem.you just wont have abs.i know people will really disagree with this fix but pumping brakes beats rearending someone at a 10mph stop.p.s. if you have 4wabs the front reluctance sensors are integral to the hub bearings.

it is a ford algorythem sensitivity issue called "false activation", clean the crap out of the tone ring teeth and see if it stops.

Only two wheel drives have tone rings IIRC. i believe 4wd are integral to the front hub bearings

I did the same thing, with the same results. Except it was only on the right front wheel. That told me it had to be either the pickup or there was something wrong machanically. Next I vaccume bled the system.
My problem being right side. I pulled the rt. rotor and grabbed a dial caliptor and started measuring. Started with one of the old rotors, with 130,000 miles on it, took the width. Compaired it to the new rotor, MADE IN MEXICO, also did a run out check on the new one, (within .0001 no problems). Next I check the stator on the old one. Figured the depth. Compared it to the new, was a differance of .021 in spots. Dosen't sound like much but as it rotates will create a flucuation in voltage, and at slow speed will give an indication of a locked wheel (at 5 to 10 MPH). Causing the pump to come on to correct the situation.
THE FIX! With a dial callipor & straight edge & screw driver I carefullt went in through the rotor slots and pried the stator up to the calculated measurement all around, that is so the depth arm on the calipor just tutched the stator. Reinstalled the rotor & went for a test drive. NO MORE SLOW SPEED BRAKE PLUSING.
This may work for any of you that have changed the rotors (made in MEXICO) ande pads nad have this trouble. Don't think a garage will do this though, insurance liabilities.
IF YOU DO THIS YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN AND TAKE FULL RESPONSABILITY FOR ANYTHING YOU DO. It worked for me.
