Bog at idle waiting for truck to warmp up, new MAF
Hey Guys, newbie here and an amateur mechanic (basically I operate under the idea I don't care if it costs me more to do unnecessary repiars, I'm stil not paying someone else to fix it).
So here's my problem. I had a check engine light and my Truck was bogging, especially at start up when it's cold out. (99 Ranger 4.0) So iwent down to the local repair shop, had them check the code and it came back as the MAF, makes sense because that could certainly be causing the problem. So i change the MAF and the IAC for good measure.
Here's where I may hade madea mistake, not sure, I used to have a 2003 ranger 3.0, and I had a left over o2 sensor from that, from what I could tell looking up cross references, it looked like this sensor would be compatible in the 99 4.0 as well, just needed the wires spliced, which I did and put in the new o2 sensor as well.
So, after changing these three things the check engine light cleared but the truck bogs even worse and almost sounds like its misfiring or something, makes a bang when its really struggling.
Otherwise, after about 5-10 minutes of giving it a little gas or struggling it around the neighboorhood it perks right up and runs like a champ once the engine is warm...do you think it was originally a bad MAF sensor and then I fixed that and caused a similar problem with an incompatible o2 sensor? Or do yoiu think I'm missing it altogether.
Had a buddy tell me to check the choke....but I didn't think a 99 ranger would have a choke as it is a fuel injected vehicle, but I could be off on that as well, like I said, I'm an amateur.
Thanks for the help
