Default rattling noise

if i understand things right, if your rattling noise just happens after your truck is started after setting a while, especially overnight, and goes away in a few seconds,it's the chain tensioners, the left side is the one that seems to be must likely the problem, here's my problem,i can't pinpoint if it's the right side or the left side, mine seems to be comming from both sides, would be save to say then that both sides needs to be repaced,i have a mechanic shop that he would replace both for 250.00 for both sides,he says the intake has to come off to replace the front one, he thinks he can get to the rear one from the front after removing the wheel.. what do you guys think,,thanks in advance..........it's a 2002..........

To my understanding if the tensioners need service the whole engine needs to come out. I think there is three total so if you are going to service one you might as well do them all. It's not a fun job to do.

Depends on the engine and year of the vehicle. My 98 4.0 OHV can be done in the truck.

I just looked up that issue for the '02 4.0 V6 SOHC engine, and it says there is a TSB about rattling due to a faulty chain tensioner. http://www.turborangerforums.com/showthread.php?t=833

i had both front and rear tensioners installed it rattles more now than it did, used to just rattle when i first started it up and it would quit, now the front driver side rattles all the time, the mechanic said the right side rattled for a little bit and then quit, passenger side, any thoughts on what might be wrong ????????????
