Default cat code help

hi i just bought a 1999 ranger 4.0 4x4 5speed and i have been getting horrible gas mileage. at my last fill up i got 11 mpg. the truck has 116000 miles and i had a buddy check for codes. it came up with an o2 sensor reading so i replaced all the o2 sensors. it also came up with a cat problem and im not totally sure but i think the cat is gutted. is there anyway to cancel out the o2 sensor after the cat? also what else should a do for better economy?

plugs?
fuel filter?

What he said.

I've got the same codes. I've done all but seafoam and fuel filter. Doing that soon. I get 15-16 MPG.

I also have a99 4.0 v-6 auto 5-speed 4x4 offroad. My gas milage is about 12-13/gal, and i had a o2 sensor go or 2,which set off codes for my cat. if you have the 4.0 v-6 then you should have 2 in-line cats and a o2 sensor trailing them. as far as gas mileage, my truck is runnin tip-top with all plugs wires sensors ok. must be the gears in front and rearend.

if ur getting 12/13mpg i think u might want to stay off the skinny pedal a bit hahaha jk if you got bigger than stock tires than yea a regear would help you out a bit

Default Re: cat code help

so it turns out it was a bad mass airflow sensor. went from a low 11mpg highway and city to about 18-20 mixed so much happier. anyone gettin bad gas mileage i recommend changing the mas sensor. it works wonders
