Default 98 4.0 starting issues.

hey guys, i tried getting some feedback in another thread, but would like some more info/ opinions

last night i came home parked my truck..realized it was sticking out abit, so i put it in nuetral (didnt start it) to park it further back.

it got pretty cold out this morning and went to start it. nothing. wont even crank. battery is good my volt meter shows 12 volts. radio, blower all work.

no clicking when turn the ignition, the dash just lights up.

any ideas? wouldent a starter just click? do you think rolling it back abit more would help get it started? mabie me letting it roll back made things not line up right?

Happened to my first ranger. I think it's called arking. Check your battery terminals I had to get a new positive terminal connector thing(forgot name) and it cranked first try after.

I would here like a clicking but that's it. I clipped the wires and bought a new one and it worked. So idk that is what I think it could be.

i did do that. didnt do anything, so i looked at the battery terminals, nothing looks corroded.. but i loosened the nut and wigged the connector back and fourth a couple times on each terminal, tightened it down and voila! started up first try, guess thats why it may have been having trouble starting all along? shitty connections. i will be cleaning the terminals up and gettting new connector things just incase theres something i cant see going on. thanks for the input boys!

Two possibilities are either a problem with the Anti Theft system(PATS) if your truck has it or a bad connection on the signal wire to the starter solenoid. The signal wire is the small one that hooks to the starter and some Fords develop problems on this circuit. The fix is to cut off the old connector a couple of inches from the end and splice in a new wire and connector and heat shrink the splice.
